ANDERSON, SC – Upstate CPA Brian L. Johnson, co-founder and Tax Partner of SuggsJohnson CPAs in Anderson, has been appointed by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to the South Carolina Board of Accountancy, effective immediately through June 30, 2019.
The South Carolina Board of Accountancy regulates the accounting profession in South Carolina. The nine-member Board is dedicated to public protection through the equitable enforcement of the laws, rules and regulations in the South Carolina code. The code is instrumental in providing the framework to communicate financial results that are used to make business decisions, and provides assurance as to the reliability of financial reporting to protect the public.
A Georgia native, Mr. Johnson began his career in the real estate group of Ernst & Young before joining Elliott Davis, LLC. After several years there, Brian co-founded SuggsJohnson in 2005. He has more than 20 years of experience in public accounting, with a practice largely concentrated in the real estate, professional services and manufacturing sectors. He also assists family-owned and closely-held businesses and their owners in numerous industries.
He is a graduate of Presbyterian College and the University of Georgia, where he earned a Masters of Accountancy degree with a focus in Taxation. A licensed CPA in South Carolina, Mr. Johnson is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the South Carolina Association of CPAs, where he serves on the Tax Committee.
Mr. Johnson is a graduate of both Leadership Anderson and Leadership NEXT, an Anderson Independent Mail “20 Under 40” honoree, and a member of the First Citizens Bank Advisory Board. A member of Central Presbyterian Church, he currently serves as board Treasurer of Hospice of the Upstate, and is a former Director and Treasurer of both the United Way of Anderson County and Anderson Youth Camp.
